IC Educational Series: Back-to-School Immunizations During COVID-19: Strategies for Keeping Kids Vaccinated

Aug 26 2020

The current COVID-19 pandemic has led to the disruption of several vaccine delivery systems, both in clinical settings and at offsite clinics, leading many Colorado children to fall behind on routine immunizations. On August 26, 2020 Immunize Colorado hosted a webinar during which public health experts from Children’s Hospital Colorado and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment discussed Colorado’s school and child care immunization data and considerations for returning to school amid the pandemic. Presenters discussed:

  • An overview of the CDPHE 2019/2020 school immunization data and goals for the coming 2020/2021 school year
  • Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on immunization services, both in clinical settings and pop-up vaccination clinics, and opportunities for improvement
  • Resources for providing primary care services during the current pandemic, including new routine vaccination guidelines for providers
  • Recommendations for a risk-based approach to reopening schools
