House Bill 16-1408 Cash Fund Allocations For Health-Related Programs was signed by Gov. Hickenlooper May 4, 2016.
HB 1408 provides important one-time funding to support patients and health care providers in Colorado. As amended, HB 1408 transfers unneeded funds from the Colorado Child Health Plan Plus Trust Fund to the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing to continue enhanced reimbursements for health care providers who provide primary care services to patients enrolled in Medicaid.
Investing in primary care services is critical to forming a healthy foundation for Colorado’s children. The Primary Care Sustainability Fund directs funding to vital primary care services including office visits, preventive care, immunization administration, and newborn care. Without this bill, enhanced Medicaid reimbursement rates for primary care services will expire in June 2016, threatening access to health care for vulnerable populations, including the more than 30 percent of Colorado’s children who are enrolled in Medicaid.
