Hannah Fryczynski, MPH, Garfield County Public Health

Hannah excitedly joined Immunize Colorado in October 2020 as an AmeriCorps VISTA member. She will be serving as an Immunization Outreach and Education Coordinator for the Garfield County Public Health Department.

Hannah received her Master’s in Public Health in May 2020 during the height of the COVID pandemic, which made graduating with a Public Health degree all the more meaningful and urgent. She completed an accelerated five year BS/MPH program at Rutgers University.

Throughout her undergraduate and graduate years, Hannah developed a passion for health outreach and education. She got involved as a Sexual Health Advocate her first year of college, allowing her to present workshops to students on campus on topics such as STIs, contraception, and body image. Hannah eventually became certified as an HIV tester. She took on many roles planning the Relay for Life event at Rutgers each year by serving on the executive board and has volunteered as a counselor for the last four years at Camp No Worries, a pediatric oncology camp for children and their siblings (easily the best part of her summers). She is always looking to learn more about different areas of Public Health. During her final year of graduate school, Hannah explored the relationship between immigrants and gun violence by conducting a systematic review for her graduate thesis.

Hannah’s goal in life is to serve communities in the most beneficial and sustainable way possible, creating relationships with those she advocates for. The values of AmeriCorps directly align with her own and she couldn’t be more excited to begin her VISTA service.

Favorite Book/Movie: The Invention of Wings (Book) Dirty Dancing (Movie)

Personal Hero: My mother is the strongest woman I know! My mom has encouraged me to pursue every dream I’ve had and because of her, I have gotten to this point in my life where I am able to take on this opportunity with AmeriCorps wholeheartedly.

Hometown Fun Fact: Bayonne, New Jersey is a “Peninsula City” situated on a peninsula located between Newark Bay to the west, the Kill Van Kull to the south, and New York Bay to the east. Most importantly, it’s Game of Thrones writer, George R.R. Martin’s hometown.

Favorite Things To Do in Colorado: Figuring that out as I just moved here and I’ve never been to Colorado before! I’m looking forward to a more outdoors lifestyle!

Why Vaccinate: Simply: vaccines work! Vaccines play one of the most important roles in Public Health. They are the biggest prevention measure we can take against communicable diseases. Their success has allowed us to live a life unafraid of diseases like Polio and Smallpox and such a privilege cannot be taken for granted. For this reason, we must continue to vaccinate and protect those around us in our communities!
