Lucy Devaney, Denver Public Health
Lucy joined Immunize Colorado in 2021 as an AmeriCorps VISTA focused on immunization and outreach education through partnership with Denver Public Health’s Immunization Clinic. Through her partnership with Denver Public Health, she is working to coordinate vaccination clinics with specific focus on increasing the rate of routine childhood vaccinations in areas of Denver that are lower than average. She is also working on creating opportunities for communities to receive COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations. This is made possible by utilizing Denver Public Health’s In-School Immunization Program which provides vaccinations to children regardless of insurance status and at no cost to their families. Lucy recently graduated from Clemson University in May of 2021 with a B.S. in Language & International Health with a concentration in Spanish and an emphasis in Health Administration.
Favorite Book / Movie: Any of the Harry Potters! (I read them every single summer) and Clueless
Personal Hero: My younger brother – my younger brother underwent open heart surgery at the age of 16 and has worked to overcome a congenital heart defect. He is the strongest, most courageous person I know & inspired me to pursue a career to public health.
Hometown Fun Fact: I grew up in Athens, Georgia which is not only home to the University of Georgia but also the birthplaces of the bands REM & Widespread Panic!
Favorite Colorado Thing to do: I haven’t explored much of Colorado yet, but I think my favorite activity is going to be skiing! I am a huge skier.
Why Vaccinate: Vaccinations are one of the most effective, if not the most effective, primary prevention tactics in public health. They not only protect you but help protect others from infectious diseases.
