Navigating Federal Changes to Pediatric Vaccine Recommendations – Where Do We Go From Here?

Date

Monday, February 2

Time

12 - 1 p.m. MT

Event Description

New year, new federal pediatric vaccine recommendations? On February 2nd, Immunize Colorado hosted a webinar featuring Dr. David Higgins, who discussed the Department of Health and Human Services' January 5th announcement of an updated CDC pediatric immunization schedule. The schedule removes 6 previously universally recommended vaccines and shifts them to either a high-risk or shared clinical decision-making recommendation--a schedule that now more closely resembles that of Denmark. The decision balks at the decades-old system that prioritizes rigorous scientific review of available vaccination data and ignores the context of the U.S.'s healthcare system and demographics, and has left many of us in the public health space wondering, "where do we go from here?" Attendees learned about these recent changes, what expert organizations are doing to respond, and how public health professionals and immunization advocates can engage.
