AmeriCorps VISTA Program
Immunize Colorado's AmeriCorps VISTA program, the "Colorado Immunity Corps", has been active since 2020. Members are tasked with building capacity at local public health departments and federally-qualified health centers, promoting immunization knowledge and improving access to immunizations and related healthcare services in Colorado communities.
AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism, provides opportunities for Americans to serve their country domestically, address the nation's most pressing challenges, improve lives and communities, and strengthen civic engagement. Each year, the agency places more than 200,000 AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers in intensive service roles and empowers millions more to serve as long-term, short-term, or one-time volunteers. VISTA Testimonials
Since 2020, Immunize Colorado has led the Colorado Immunity CorpsĀ which has supported providing vaccines to nearly 50,000 Coloradans. Unfortunately, recent decisions at the federal level leave the program vulnerable to a forced shut-down.
A decision to dismantle AmeriCorps, including VISTA, could be devastating. Not only do AmeriCorps programs provide immense benefit to the community, but they are also a vital career pathway for many young Americans, providing an opportunity to explore their interests and build connections that lead to employment and education opportunities. Many Colorado Immunity Corps members have chosen to share their positive experiences with the program:
